Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik Old Town is memorable – the old city walls, the narrow, cobblestones streets, the imposing harbour – not least because it’s been used in plenty of film and TV programmes. So it looks just like a film set but with lotas of extra extras! Dubrovnik owns the dubious accolade of having the highest tourist to local ratio in Europe. Around 16 tourists for every local and it feels crowded. There’s a good reason why it’s so popular and Mhairi and I are part of the problem, of course.

But the sense of congestion is a bit misleading because, outside of the walls, the rest of Dubrovnik is pretty extensive and worth visiting too. We stayed in a part of it, up in the hills with stunning views and taxi-only access, at least for us as the buses didn’t go up there and the climb would’ve been the end of us. We picked an apartment with a swimming pool which was the most refreshing blessing in the heat. Good choice, Mhairi! 🥵🏊

The problem is, Lesley, the heat doesn’t really disappear. 😱 It’s only been a few days and I can’t remember what it feels like to be cold. Not complaining though. A nice swim in the sea today and yesterday certainly helped. 😉xx

It won’t surprise you there’s no issue with feeling cold in EH39.. enjoy it, a swim in the sea to cool off sounds like a perfect compromise.
